Herbal knowledge
Herbs have been with mankind for thousands of years. They are used to
preserve food, season food, protect against illness,
heal and soothe wounds, and
beautify the home.
In the 19th century, people ate an average of 450 different plants and herbs, today we eat 50 at best. Until about 200 years ago, medicinal herbs were also the most important medicine.
In our modern times, we often only encounter herbs in synthetic form.
Ready meals with artificial flavors make quick cooking possible, so that
seasoning of food is no longer necessary. The preservatives in herbs are being replaced by cheap artificial additives, some of which are made from petroleum. Healthy foods are becoming increasingly rare and medicinal herbs are being eradicated by weed killers and artificial fertilizers.
Since chemical medicines have also been successfully used to cure illnesses, the pharmacy industry has been using fewer and fewer natural remedies and the old knowledge of herbs is increasingly being lost.
However, medicinal herbs contain many valuable ingredients that have a positive effect on the health of the human body and they can be used in a wide variety of ways: in the kitchen to preserve and/or season food, as an addition to salads, sauces and soups, as herbal butter, herbal oil or vinegar, herbal salt as a tea with fresh or dried plant parts, leaves and/or flowers as a tincture dissolved in alcohol, DMSO or vinegar as a medicine preserved in honey as a bath additive or additive in care and cosmetic products I have planted some medicinal herbs on my balcony or they grow in the meadows around our farm. I would like to share these treasures of nature with you too, which is why I preserve and preserve them, e.g. as oxymel, healing ointment, herbal salt, tea or tincture.
